Pulmonary hamartoma with low FDG uptake: A case report
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction: Pulmonary hamartomas are the most common benign tumors of the lung. It usually shows no FDG uptake and has a low risk for malignant transformation. We present a rare case of pulmonary hamartoma with low Fluorodeoxyglucose uptake to call attention to the low malignancy potential of this benign tumor. Case presentation: 67-year old male patient on the preoperative evaluation for his lumbar disc surgery was found out to have a solid lesion detected on chest computed tomography with low Fluorodeoxyglucose uptake. Conclusion: Pulmonary hamartomas are benign tumors. But although their benignity they may show Fluorodeoxyglucose uptake and also they have a low risk for malignant transformation. So they should be followed up closely.

18FDG PET/CT in pulmonary carcinosarcoma and brain metastasis
Carcinosarcoma is a rare type of cancer that is composed of a mixture of sarcomatous and carcinomatous elements. Pulmonary carcinosarcoma has a 25% five-year survival rate with a prognosis poorer than other non-small cell lung carcinomas. Herein, we report a case of pulmonary carcinosarcoma and its 18F-FDG PET/CT findings. A 61-year-old male patient presented with brain symptoms, including hea...
متن کاملSclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT) of the spleen: a case report with FDG-PET findings and literature review
We report the 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) findings of sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT) of the spleen. The patient was a 37-year-old woman with a splenic mass incidentally found on abdominal ultrasound. FDG-PET/CT showed weak FDG accumulation (maximum standardized uptake value = 3.65). An unenhanced CT scan showed a...
متن کاملA small pancreatic hamartoma with an obstruction of the main pancreatic duct and avid FDG uptake mimicking a malignant pancreatic tumor: a systematic case review
BACKGROUND Pancreatic hamartomas are extremely rare and may be misdiagnosed as malignant tumors. We report herein a case of a small, solid-type pancreatic hamartoma. CASE PRESENTATION A 72-year-old female was incidentally detected pancreatic lesion by ultrasonography. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 2.0-cm solid lesion. The main pancreatic duct (MPD) was obstruct...
متن کامل18F-FDG PET/CT in pleural epithelioid hemangioendothelioma
Pleural epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a rare malignancy of vascular-endothelial origin with non-specific symptoms and an unpredictable outcome. Diagnosis of this condition by imaging modalities is challenging, and no standard therapeutic approaches have been established in this regard. In this paper, we described the case of a patient with a low-grade fever, coughing and chest pain ...
متن کاملRare case of squamous cell carcinoma of buccal mucosa metastasizing to interventricular septum in a young adult detected by 18F-FDG PET-CT
Metastatic tumors to the heart unlike primary cardiac tumors are not rare. Despite its frequency, cardiac metastasis is commonly detected only during autopsy as the symptoms of disseminated metastasis prevail over symptoms caused by cardiac metastasis and hence is overlooked most of the time. Tumors more commonly found metastasizing to the heart are malignancies of lung, breast, esophagus, lymp...
